A shining light in the U.S. economy is the temporary staffing industry. A new report by CareerBuilder shows temporary staffing growing 57 percent between 2009 and 2014. There is a modest growth of 3% for staffing firms in 2018, according to theĀ American Staffing Association. All the talk about the labor market, making a fundamental shift to temp jobs is turning out to be a reality. The continued growth is excellent news for the staffing industry.

Staffing Industry Continues to Grow

Staffing firms employed nearly 3.10 million temporary and contract workers per week in the first quarter of 2018. “Temporary employment will continue an upward trajectory as companies look for ways to quickly adapt to market dynamics,” said Eric Gilpin, president of CareerBuilder’s Staffing& recruiting and healthcare divisions.

“Two in five U.S. employers expect to hire temporary or contract workers this year,” he continued, “which opens new doors for workers who want to build relationships with different organizations and explore career options.”

Some of the fastest-growing temp work for lower-paying jobs include home health aides, childcare workers, and cooks. This also provides substitute teachers, product promoters, and retail salespersons. Many predict that these jobs will increase by up to 15% over the next four years. The fastest-growing areas in higher-paying positions include computer systems analysts, accountants and auditors, and management analysts. This consists of the customer service representatives, big-rig truck drivers, and registered nurses. Such jobs are expected to see up to 19% growth between now and 2019.
